Hat Shoot Events
The origins of this tradition are not known to us, but the custom is for squad mates to shoot the hat of any squad member shooting their first 25 straight (or 100 straight) in a gauge. At the 2009 North Louisiana Open, Junior shooter Caleb Slocum shot his first 25 straight in the 20 gauge. This was Caleb’s third registered skeet shoot. The remarkable picture below provided by Marie Gardner shows Caleb’s squad honoring him by blowing his hat to smithereens!
